Hybrid fishermen step inside

I need some insight on fishing for hybrids. There is a lake in OKC (Overholser) probably has 8-10 miles of shoreline with absolutely no structure. I have seen the lake when it was really low and it looks like a man made lake resembling a shallow bowl. I would venture to say 90% of the lake is less than 10 ft deep. I know there is a decent hybrid and catfish population. I keep my boat at a storage facility within a mile of the lake so I am thinking about trying to figure out the hybrids. The only cover is on the west side of the lake where there is quite a bit of shoreline with big rocks lining the banks, probably 2-3 miles worth. Do hybrids hang around rocks? It they don't then they are just out roaming the lake. I am around the lake quite a bit, driving by it, and I have never seen the hybrids schooling on top. I have done quite a bit of striper fishing on Texhoma but have never tried this lake. It's too close not to at least give it a try. There are alot of bank fishermen but I have fished farm ponds that get more boat traffic than this lake gets. Any suggestions on how to possibly catch some of the hybrids would be appreciated. Find the bait find the fish. I would check the rocks and any places where you see bank fisherman consistently.

Bait is number one. The fish will be close to the bait. If you can catch shad that would be my first option. I’ve been feeding our hybrids perch the size of my hand. 3 to 4” tall and 6” or so long. It’s fierce. Limited in 15 minutes yesterday. Going back for more soon.

If there are any old creekbeds going through it, those will be travel corridors you can catch them in

What MightyMas said for sure. Early and or late daylight hours with live bait. Old creek beds combined with flooded ponds and trees in deeper water . Deeper water relative to the impoundment. Don't know about the electronics on board, so ...

Learning a lake is tough work! Get notes and screen shots as you learn the lake. As many ppl said focus on wind blown areas. Wind stacks up plankton which stacks up shad which stacks up game fish. Focus on wind blown contour changes such as banks, points, humps, islands, steep banks. Don’t fish unless you see hybrids on sonar. Check out my YouTube channel “RespectTheFish” for several examples and guidance to reading sonar. If you don’t have a “smart” trolling motor that can spot lock you over fish to present live shad or own downriggers, then I would consider trolling crank-baits. My best advice with trolling is to focus shallow like ontop of humps and points as the shallower fish seem to be more aggressive and likely to bite artificial baits while the fish hanging deeper on a point seem to ignore artificial baits and only bite live shad. Hope that gives you a start.

OVERHOLSTER Lake

I'm normally not a big fan of trolling but I think its the best way to locate the fish on a lake like this. Hybrids follow bait and are not as structure oriented as white bass. Get some Alabama (Umbrella rigs) and troll the lake. Watch for bait on your graph. Waypoint the locations you catch fish. You should be able to cover the entire lake in just a few outings.

I grew up fishing this lake from a boat. We fished for channel cats and not the hybrid but the guys that were fishing for hybrid were over in the southwest corner where the slight neck is. From the Navionics shot, I'd say that southern most red X is about where they would be. Now, this was 25+ years ago so take it for what it's worth. In case you decide to go for the cats, we'd always just set up south and drift north using shrimp.
