Bunch of sandies????? - 04/10/18 01:06 AM

Guy posted this in another site. After getting called out he stated they were all released un-harmed.

I wish folks would make sure of the species they are keeping. It isn’t that hard to tell usually. Maybe a GW will teach him the difference.

Well, there IS a sandbass there (two actually). Maybe one yellow.

But yeah, mostly hybrids.

It would be impossible to keep that many fish, take a pic, release and expect them all to live.

They are deader than dead for sure. People should know what they are fishing for.

If ran across this a time or two at the ramp. Problem is....a lot of people really don’t know the difference. Sure, there’s a few that “don’t care” but, the majority are just in educated in the matter. I agree with Keith, people should at least attempt to learn the difference. I have to admit, there’s been times that I actually wasn’t sure hybrid or sandbass, seems like in the last 5/6 years Mother Nature has taken over and made it difficult to determine for sure. When in doubt, toss it back.

I count 2 sandbass.

Re: Bunch of sandies????? - 04/13/18 06:15 AM

Unbelieveable ... I see only two sandies, the rest undersized hybrids. All look dead. Doubt they would swim after being released. Hm .. at ~ $200 a piece, could rack up a hefty fine.

How can anyone look at the fish and not tell that there is a difference ?
A hefty fine and a good butt kickin should stop the behavior .

Re: Bunch of sandies????? - 04/13/18 01:40 PM

Everyone has to learn this for the first time. First time I caught hybrids, I thought I was catching enormous sandbass ... but it taught me the differences FAST.

It's ok to make a mistake - but be a man and own up to it. It's ok to say "oh damn, I had no idea" and learn from the experience, rather than to lie about it, like the OP says this person did. Have had other members over the years post comparable photos of illegal--and very dead!--fish. The ones who I respect are those who use the moment to educate themselves about fish & regulations after being called out on it.

Then there's the guys who claim that they "released" an illegal species of shark after the photo ... and the shark was very clearly limp and dead. Let's just say that I have a very low opinion of that kind of person.
