PK in late March

PK in late March - 03/07/18 01:22 AM

Guys I’m headed to PK Easter weekend. Mainly will LMB fish but also want to try and find some stripers and sandies too. Not really been known to find them myself so I’m kinda lost on how to hunt them down. I usually just kind of stumble into them while bass fishing. Can anyone give me some pointers on best tactics and places to try and find them later this month?

Throw a spinnerbait at the bank and at act like your trying to catch a bass. I can’t tell you how many bass fisherman I have talked to at the boat ramp about how the stripers just couldn’t leave there springtime spinner baits alone.
7 inch Redfins waked shallow early should catch some Stripers.
Unfortunately Stripers can be anyplace on PK in March.
I have caught them in Kneelys Slew to the river in March.

Look in the back of creeks for Sand Bass. Cado and Cedar.

Launch up on the north end of the lake and go up Rock Creek. As chilly as it's been they should still be there by then. That said, you could probably catch LM bass and sandies in just about any creek running into that lake in late march or april. Roadrunners in white or a white one tipped in chartreuse work well or just a jig with a jig spinner.

That said, the safest bet on PK is to get a guide. Most of the water in that 65 mile long lake has no fish. Guides who are scouting all the time know where they are.

I’ll be at the state park and my boat isn’t big enough to handle that lake when it gets rough. I think that Caddo is just around the corner from there? I’ve done pretty well in there before and plan to pick it apart over that weekend. Family had a cabin on that side as well and they would catch stripes off the dock there at times. I always see suspended fish in the creek arms and stuff but never could figure out what they were. I may try to catch some bait and do some night fishing as well.

Your staying in the best creek on the whole lake. Cedar Creek🤔
Stay close to camp and you will do well.

I fished yesterday at PK. Saw water temps above 60 deg. The lake was acting strange, I didn't mark sand bass but did manage one nice striper. With these fronts coming in I bet bet it will change day to day.
