Whitney Monday - 01/16/18 07:51 PM

Rob and his coaching buddy Greg invited me to join them for a day on Whitney, how could I refuse. Weather report looked good for Monday and terrible the rest of the week. It was foggy and very cloudy, winds were minimal. We really struggled for most of the day, catching one here and one there. Checked all the places we found fish last week and could only find one or two at each place. Things were looking bad and we knew bad weather was coming. Later in the day we moved over to the bluffs and things picked up a bit. We started finding more fish suspended in the river channel and on bottom next to the river channel. 30-40 fow. We actually found birds working and as time past they got more active and bigger numbers. We decided to start chasing the birds and it was a good decision. They helped us find huge schools of sandbass with a few stripers mixed in. At one point for about a minute there were fish busting the surface in 32fow. Top action didn't last long but look at the graph picture. These schools hung around for quite a while. 101 on the counter. Very very light bite. Had to vary presentation often to keep them interested. Completely still, wiggle a little, small up/down motion, sideways motion all worked but not all the time. We all had a great time and Greg got to take home some fish for a fish fry.
