Making your own jigheads is fairly easy, but you would have to use/need a BUNCH of them, to make up for the start up cost's.

Lead melting pot: around $50-$60
mold: $35
hooks/swivels/blades: $30-$50
Lead: around $2 per lb (ebay)

I have the smaller pony head mold, but not the larger horse head. I have always just used a minnow/roundhead, when I need a heavier/bigger head.

X2 I have both large and small molds ( add another $35.00 ) Some cavities are easy to fill and others are not. takes a lot of patience and time to learn all the ins and outs of jig making.

Ask yourself say in 3 months just how many you go through, I bet you when you figure all involved you will find it cheaper to buy them give MTPOCKETS a call, now if it what you want to do then go for it. Do you use 50 in 3 months?

If you want something not offered as far as color, size, or hook selection it's a slam dunk. I got started casting jig heads back in the '80's because I was easy to go through 100 a day fishing the rip-rap on the river.

I keep doing it because it gives me something to do. I do some lures that you're not going to find in stores.

The cost savings can be substantial. After covering startup costs a basic horse/pony head runs less than a quarter.

I have been pouring jigs & slabs for 30+ years. Yes, you will save money in the long run, but I do it just because I enjoy it.
