Found a Nice Rio Hole on the Sabinal River ! (Records Pending). - 05/17/17 08:04 PM
Fished a friend of mines ranch which has a part of the Sabinal River flowing through it. It took me two days before I finally found a hole containing Rios. The bite was good and I caught some nice Rios using worms and ultra light tackle. Fish were located in shallow water 2 to 3 feet deep next to large rocks and grass beds. The water was clear and the river was in good condition with springs flowing. That part of the river could use a super nice soaking and hopefully soon. The biggest Rio was 9.50" in length with a fat girth of 9.50". The certified weight of the fish was 1.03 Lbs. This fish will be the first Rio records for the Sabinal River in both the weight record class and the catch&release record class. Paper work was sent to the Texas Parks&Wildlife for their review. Rounding out the catch were some nice Redear,Bluegill, and a few small bass. All fish were healthy, fat, and full of fight. Fish were all released. I also heard lots of quail and turkey calling. Spending time in the great outdoors of Texas. It just don't get any better.
