Fayette 4/25 - 04/26/17 12:43 PM

Inspired by Crickethook post, headed to Fayette in search of bluegill. I fish Fayette a lot for bass, but really want to learn the tricks for bluegill. Fished from 8:00 am til 5:30. Fished several areas with no luck... until 12:30...finally found them. Ended up with around 20, and kept the ones in the pics for the pan. The redbreast is by far the biggest one I have ever caught. Fished with night crawlers in 2 ft of water. Water temp 78-80 degrees & wind howling. Also ended up with 37 bass, biggest 4.5 lbs. It is amazing to me how many bass u catch on night crawlers on a small hook, although Fayette in the timber is not ideal for 6lb test !

Nice fish Vogey. Good job on finding em. Love fishing that lake. As for bass on night crawlers,I was fishing with Fred aka The Rionator on Fayette a couple of years ago, and we located a bunch of nice ones on a stump over by the intake. We caught over twenty with the smallest going 4 lbs. We caught several in the 7 to 9 lb range. Fred caught one that was 21.50" which was the catch&release record for Fayette. His record was broken this past March. All the bass caught that day were on night crawlers, ultra lights, with 4 and 6 pound test line. thumb

Banker...That's quite a fish story...I LOVE good fish stories...were you fishing for bluegill & happened upon the bass, and what time of year was it ? Also, have you caught bluegill in various parts of the lake ? I have only found bluegill is 2 areas, but have tried around 15. Not looking for specifics, just incentive to keep looking...btw...when the bluegill stopped biting yesterday, they stopped cold. The bite was hot for only about 1 hour...thanks...Vogey

It was in October when we got into the Bass. hooked I usually fish Fayette once or twice a year all by boat. We fish there usually in September or early October and have for the most part found the sunnies by the reeds in 4 to 6 feet of water and in the timbers in 12 to 15 feet of water. thumb Morning bite between 7am till 11 am is the best time. coolio You are right the fish really turn off after the bite and are super hard to catch after that. hide2

I know the the lake levels are lowered during the fall and then are made higher in the spring. I seem to do better when the water level is on the high side! hmmm

Gosh, I am down babysitting grand kids in west Houston, find out I am only 84 miles away from Fayette.

I am definitely going to bring my kayak down sometime and fish this lake!

What great pics!
