Rainbow Trout and Coppernose Bluegill ! - 02/24/17 12:22 AM
Met up with Will aka 1960 Texan who was fishing at the Blanco State Park. Will told me that the Blanco River had been stocked this past Monday with an extra trout stocking. I was geared only for sunfish. Will caught over 15 nice Rainbow Trout using a white Rooster Tail and a gold Super Duper lure. He caught several in the 11 and 12 inch range. I was lucky and picked up six trout, a couple of nice Redbreast Sunfish, and a couple of small Bluegill. I was using worms and started out with a size six cricket hook. Switched to a size ten eagle claw and had better results of the trout. We kept a few for the frying pan. We took a lunch break at the local D.Q. and then hit a pond on the way home. With this latest warm spell the nice Coppernose Bluegill were on the move. We caught eight nice Bluegill in the 8 to 9 inch range. Rounding out the catch were a few smaller Bluegill and a small bass. Worms and spinner baits were used. All of the pond fish were released. Fried up the trout once I got home. Boy were they GOOD. Spending a day catching Rainbow Trout and Coppernose Bluegills with a friend. It just don't get any better!
