A well deserved Record Catch!

A well deserved Record Catch! - 11/18/16 04:47 PM

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Louis Almaraz who lives in the Nueces Canyon! I met Louis back in July who was sitting under a tree by the Nueces River. He was reading his mail. Louis shared with me information which paid off on the Nueces River and other water bodies in the Nueces Canyon. Louis at the time had never fished freshwater and only had fished salt water. Louis rigged up some poles that he had and started fishing with me over the past months. He has become a very good friend of mine. This past week while fishing the Camp Wood Creek in Real County Louis caught a very nice TROPHY RIO that was 9.10" in length. Photos of the fish were taken and the records application was completed and sent to the Texas Parks&Wildlife for the Rio Grande Cichlid Catch&Release Record for the Camp Wood Creek. Louis lost a bigger Rio that was 10 plus inches earlier. Louis knowledge of the Canyon is remarkable and his neighbors have the up most respect for this man. Meeting and making friends with a man like Louis in simply a honor! To me this is what fishing is all about. Meeting GREAT people while fishing. It just don't get any better! fish

I couldn't have put it any better. Louis invited me to fish his land, stay in is house, eat his food, etc. within the first 3 minutes of meeting him. True salt of the earth, give you the shirt off his back kind of guy. It was truly an honor to meet him. The type of person we all wish to call a friend.

Congrats on the record, I hope he sets a bunch more.

Great post Chuck! You summed it up by saying "Meeting great people is what fishing is all about" and just about all people who love and respect the outdoors are GREAT people! HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Louis on his record Rio. Nice way of getting into the record books! woot

Side Note: What bait was Louis using and how deep was the fish. Also is the Camp Wood Creek a deep water creek? Did you guys catch any other records? hmmm

Have not seen any but they are there! bolt

Curtis. Camp Wood Creek is a spring fed creek in Real County. There are some deeper pockets of water that are 4 to 6 feet deep where we were fishing. Louis caught his fish in about 4 feet of water. As for other records there were two more. Large Mouth Bass weight and Rio weight. : cheers

Got word yesterday that TPW was getting the map location of the creek to add it to their records page. thumb
