Dunlap Rios 10/11/16 - 10/11/16 07:57 PM

Fished Dunlap this morning...woke up late, so didn't get on the water til 8am. Water temp 71 degrees, pretty clear at upper lake to mid lake. Fished 1st hour a little deeper and slower hoping to find some red ear. No luck...my fishing log has them really starting to pick up at this time last 2 years. Moved to mid lake shallow and got into the Rios...kept 4 biggest(photo) Picked up a catfish around 11:30 & called it a day. Also had a few bass and lots of little bait stealers. All on night crawlers fished on bottom.

Nice report. Are the ski boats basically done throwing up 4ft waves? Last time I was there my backpack got soaked on the sidewalk/walkway.

Are Rio's good to eat? Don't hear much about people eating them.

Hey Chuck...Can you describe the bluegill fishing on Canyon lake ? I never see any bluegill reports from there and am curious since it's so close. I noticed you have the bluegill record from that lake from 6 or 7 years ago, and would appreciate any info you can share...Thanks

Love your Dunlap reports Vogey; makes me miss it. What time of year are you hitting Canyon lake. Shallow in back of the coves during spring and summer and deeper water along rock ledges, brush piles, and the TPWD fish attractors during colder months. Parttime had some luck this past week so you may want to contact him

I do not fish Canyon all that often for Sunfish. The times that I do I have done OK. I usually have my best luck Mid April thru October. Cranes Mill,Fort Sam Recreation area,Jacobs Creek, and Turkey Point are pretty good areas to fish. I usually fish for Crappie while fishing Canyon! thumb

Nice specimens! I still have yet to catch a Rio... Its one of those fish I'd like to catch, but haven't ever managed to find them.

Thanks everyone for the reply's...May try canyon next week just for the heck of it...not sure where to launch, but will figure it out. As far as the Rio's go...one of the best spots on Dunlap is a stretch of water directly across from the 2nd island, moving down stream about 200 yards...they seem to be pretty concentrated in that area, especially around the rocks...
