Early Fall Creek Action! Rio Bite on FIRE!

Early Fall Creek Action! Rio Bite on FIRE! - 10/03/16 12:20 PM

Fished a local creek and the bite was "ON FIRE"! I was only going to fish for a couple of hours but the bite was so good I ended up fishing till dark. Caught well over 30 very nice Rios all in the 9 to 10 inch range. The Rios were fat and full of fight! Rounding out the catch were some very nice Bluegill and Longear. The creek is in GREAT shape with plenty of fresh water(due to last weeks 6" rain fall) and very good current. The fish are in their fall feeding patterns and are active. Fish were caught staging at the ends of fast moving water holding close to the bank. Bottom techniques were used and all fish were caught on the bait of champions worms. Fish were released and I left them biting! Getting some GREAT local creek action. It just don't get any better! fish

Nice Rios Chuck. Been catching some myself. Seems these latest cool fronts have got them moving. What is your take? Also been catching them in shallow water. Will they start to go to deeper water as it gets colder? hmmm

Thanks Curtis for the reply! cheers Rios are on the move trying to eat as much as they can before winter. After the first MAJOR cold front blows through the Rios for the most part will disappear hide2 until next spring! eeks They will usually go to some deeper water and their movement is very minimal. They try to use as little energy as possible during the winter. walking If they are in creeks they usually find the deeper pockets of water to hunker down in! They keep their movement to a minimal during the winter months. If the winter is a super cold one that will usually kill a lot of Rios! violin

Thanks Gitter for the reply! cheers Creeks have been in GREAT shape for the past two years due to the good rainfall we have been getting. Good water equals GOOD fish especially in creeks. As for Dunlap. Flooding, fast currents, and wake boaters really took a toll on the sunfish fishing! Just my two cents. thumb

Thanks NTXBankFishing for the reply. cheers Rios are a warm water/area fish. Rios can't survive in areas that have long cold winters! eeks It is well worth the road trip to an area that has them! hooked

Thanks for the information Chuck. Kind of figured flooding and wake boaters played a factor on the river lakes.

For what I have been hearing it looks like the recreational boaters are really picking up on all three of the river lakes. The area is getting more and more people which means more pressure on the recreational water ways! Hopefully they respect the resources.

These latest front coming in will really shut down the Rio bite a lot! Temperatures in the highs will be in the fifties and lows in the thirties by Friday! eeks
