Orangespotted Sunfish (Central Texas Locations) - 06/09/16 12:11 AM
Wondering if anyone has caught any Orangespotted Sunfish in central Texas around Austin would like to add some to an aquarium. I've been searching for awhile but no luck. Here is a picture of what the brightly colored males should look like.

Beautiful fish.
The Comal River in New Braunfels is loaded with both Red and Orange Spotted Sunfish. They bite year around.
Oh yea

Beautiful fish, I have never seen one. If Banker had not sent a reply, I would have wondered if you were playing a trick by using a red marker to make those red spots and red fins. Looks like a sunfish crossed with a trout. Where do you live jd55 if you don't mind saying?

I have caught some that look like the one in the pic in a few places. 1st place was by the bridge that goes to the landa park golf course parking lot, just below the spring fed pool. They have been doing some construction in the area, so not sure if u can get in there. The other spot is just above the tube shoot on the comal where a creek runs in there on the left, but it may be a little busy with the tubers ? The bridge by the train station in Landa Park holds some as well...
