Full Moon

Full Moon - 06/01/15 10:18 PM

June 2 is the full moon. The major spawn should occur this week in North Texas.

Since the lakes and rivers are all out of their banks a pond appears to be the best bet.

Pictures tomorrow.

they are indeed bedding in the ponds I fish, and this week should be primo, since the water is clearing and the rain is gone. Aim to find out first hand sometime this week.

I think you are right! Creeks are still flowing strong along with rivers. Ponds and lakes will be the choice. thumb

Are you fishing at night time during the full moon?

No, for two reasons:
1. I mostly fish in parks or the marina that do not allow night fishing.
2. It is not safe for an old man to be fishing at night in the Metroplex.

I usually hit the bank at first light. This morning I was a little late and caught the tail end of the bite. The fish were picky and small - not at all what you would expect in a spawn. I did catch a variety. Bluegills were few and far between.

Maybe us two old geezers should team up! I fish mostly at night since I work 2 jobs, and full moons in the summer I SLAY EM!And I fish alone. Might enjoy some company.

Great Catch. Is the bite better early am vs. late evening during the full moon?

I didn't catch a lot during the day when there was a full moon last month. I really want to fish at night but I don't want to go out alone either. Maybe just a 5 AM start would be enough to get into a good bite.

I cannot say how the evening bite is since I never go.

Last month was odd. They should do really well by now. I blame it on the cold weather in April and May.

Five AM is early enough. I do not catch a whole lot of sunfish before dawn. They usually start about the time it is light enough to see the bobber well.I use a lighted Thill bobber at times before dawn and I don't catch a lot before first light.

They usually quit for me about 10:00 AM. Four hours is about all the old body can stand anyway.

I'm a fan of the dawn bite. Mostly because it's normally the only option for me. A couple hours before sunset to about an hour after sunset has been very good for me. Of course I've caught bedding fish in the middle of the day also, but the closer you are to the full moon, the less successful the day time fishing is in my experience.

My buddy Carlos hit my Las Colinas spot during full moon and promptly land 16 8-10 inch greens and green hybrids, along with a 3 lb. largemouth. Caught them on 1/32 nd. oz. crappie tube jigs. Said he had no pics, but he and his neighbor had a dandy fish fry!

I have always heard that the Sunfish bite is the best during a full moon.
