Creek Fishing is HOT! - 05/23/15 01:55 PM

Fished a local creek yesterday a head of this latest round of RAIN! Fished from 9am till 3pm and the bite was on FIRE! Caught over 70 fish with a lot of very nice ones. Greens,Hybrids,Bluegill,Redear, and Bass were all caught. The creek is in excellent condition with good current. The water was clear in most spots but stained in others due to all of the past rain. Fish were hungry and full of fight due to all the fresh water. Fish were caught using both worms and Berkley Trout Worms(Natural Color). Fish were holding in shallow water 2 to 4 feet deep close to the bank. Float and bottom techniques were both used. All fish were released to fight again. Catching a bunch of creek "sunnies". It just don't get any better! fish

Nice catch banker as always...do you fillet your gills or fry em whole?? I see a shellcracker but what's the name of the Orange tip-tail one?

The orange-tip tail ones are green sunfish.

For the Gills I scale, gut, and cut the heads off. Any other fish I usually fillet. As for the third fish it's a Green. thumb

I miss the Cibolo immensely. Running into Chuck was always a good day. Nice catch! I'm more stuck to salty water these days. The water is warming up in the creeks and I'm not much for taking chances wading in an area that could possibly hold some gators. The only way I can get out for warm water, and feel comfortable about it, is to take the kayak. She's getting the rack and I'm getting the 'yak in my divorce. Good luck on all those Texas waters all and be safe.

Thanks Bob and "MHawk82" for the replies. cheers Bob: We got HAMMERED hard these latest RAIN STORMS. taz I got 5.15" in my gauge. eeks The Cibolo Creek along with the Salado and Leon are completely unfishable right now. It will take a few more days for the water to settle down. coolio "MHawk82": Hate the news on your divorce. hammer Unfortionently I have been down that same road many years ago. nuts Got two GREAT Sons who are both my best friends and are both doing well. Even got a SUPER granddaughter. dance2 Anyway keep loving that young one of yours and make the best of each day. Time heals and I will keep you in my prayers. angel2 Who knows, one of these days we will be back talking on the banks of the good ol' Cibolo Creek. fish

Nice ones as always Chuck. Looks like the area creeks are going to need some time to get back to normal. The Cibolo is a mess. Have not seen the Salado or Leon but for what I have been hearing they are really a mess also.

Side Note: Looks like we may get another inch of rain the next two days. Going to try Mcqueeney early Friday morning.

Thanks Curtis for the reply. cheers The creeks are not going to be fish-able for several days. nuts The Cibolo is still way out of it's banks. The Salado and Leon are also a mess. eeks The Hill Country creeks should be in better shape due to the lime stone and the ability for them to hold more runoff. hmmm Right now it will be some lakes and a few Hill Country spots that I will be targeting. coolio Hopefully the area will dry up some this week. Summer fishing is really looking GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! thumb

Cant get near water down here, streets and roads are blocked off blocks from the water. Went looking around yesterday saw water where I haven't seen it since 1998. River is 25' high and looks like a slow drop over the next week.
