Fishing Report for 4-5-18. - 04/06/18 01:01 PM

Fished 4-4-18 and 4-5-18. Fished two Urban creeks and two Hill Country Creeks. Sunfish are very close to spawning and are very active. Fish are in shallow water 2 to 4 deep hanging by grass, weed beds and at the ends of currents. Water is clearing up and all of the creeks are in good shape. Catching good numbers of fish over a half pound in the 8 to 10 inch range. Also catching a lot of bass in the 2 to 3 pound range! Nice adult Longear,Redbreast, Rios,Green Sunfish,Bluegill, and Redear have all been caught. Seeing a lot of gar on certain creeks as well. Also the snakes are out. Saw a few of them as well. (All water snakes). I used both my flyrod and ultralight spinning tackle. I used a top water popper, sinking beetle fly,and a sinking crawdad fly. Spinning baits used were small Gulp Alive Worms and Minnows. I also used several small spinner baits as well. Great time to be fishing the creeks. Stay safe out there!

The bluegill and sunfish have not moved shallow on the main lake yet. They are starting to bed up in the creeks though. Not many big fish showing up yet.

Thanks for the report. Things down there are ahead of our schedule. This will be 2 weekends in a row of significant cold fronts as well. What kind of Gar are you seeing, any interest in your fly?
