Leveling a Silverado

My Silverado looks like an old man truck even though it's a 4wd. Any of you guys used the Rancho quick lift kits? I don't really want a luft, just never liked how little clearance they have stock.

I did this years ago to a truck.

It changes the way it handles, reduction in fuel economy and you will want bigger tires.

Rinse and repeat.

I think I put a rough country leveling kit on my 2011 and it was just the blocks. Really like the look and clearance it has now.

It reduces fuel economy?

Changes the aero dynamics just enough.

It's not a huge difference but I gaurantee you it does.

Same thing if you remove that little black trim peice on the bottom of the bumper. They make them that way for a reason.

A little bit. The tires and exhaust hurt me the most. I get 14ish consistently in mine.

You're going to increase ground clearance by an inch. Watch out big rocks! Add larger tires to increase by another inch. Moab here I come! Aesthetically, yes, looks so much better, do it.

But I understand it's not NASCAR, just giving you a heads up.

The biggest thing is now that you've raised the front you will then notice how much space you have in the wheel wells.

If you are like 99% of most other red blooded rednecks, you will put larger tires under it next.

That's when you will see an even more significant change.

Makes sense. My mileage is terrible 90% of the time anyways because all I do is drive in town. On the highway, I'm always surprised how good I can get.

I had that body style z71 with a leveling kit and 285 65 18 BFGs, it was great. Do it, took me to around 14mpg if I can remember. I'd like to do it to my truck now except I've got baby diapers and a stay at home mom's ice cream habit to support.

I have a 4" Rough Country lift on a 2004 Z71. I like it.

You could just get a leveling kit for it.

Just leave it alone

Just crank them torsion bars up a little.

Don't buy the ranch Quicklift setup, the shocks blow easily and it hurts your ball joints. If you're want new shocks pick up some pro comp pre runner adjustable shocks (I think 4 wheel parts has a deal right now buy 3 get one free) and an aluminum 2.5" leveling kit. You want aluminum, not composite for a better ride. Mine is leveled with Pro Comp suspension on 295/55/20's here's a pic for reference for you.

It will change the a lot of things that you wish it hadn't........Later down the road .

Before and after leveling kit pictures of my truck. Before the leveling kit and bigger tires (265x65x20) I was getting around 17 doing 75-80 on the highway. After the leveling kit, it dropped down to 14-15. I put a diablo sport programmer that by passes the active fuel management system and it brought my mileage back up to 17. You can also tell a performance difference in the truck.

I agree, the 1500's have a terrible stance stock. A leveling kit makes a world of difference.

Do it right and get you some new coilovers. That is unless it is just a pavement queen. In that case spacers might be alright. When you increase the tire size you will take the biggest hit in MPGs. I have a 1.75" factory lift on the front of my Tacoma and it gets the same MPGs as my 2009. That is until I put the larger Cooper ST Maxx 10 plys on it. Tire weight is what will kill the MPGs. Also remember to allow for the larger diameter if hand calculating MPGs.

A programmer will make the correction to the computer so your speedo reads out right.

Stupid apartment gate got hung up when the truck was dang near new on that one. A lot worse when it happened but fists and some buffing compound got it taken care of.

I agree, with the advances in fuel economy the overall stance and look of a 4x4 has taken backseat. I have a '15 RAM 4x4 that I went with the biggest tires I could fit without rub and kept everything else the same. I gained almost 2 inches overall, still kept good gas mileage and didn't change my stock suspension geometry. The rake isn't as noticeable with the new tires, plus I don't have to worry about the truck looking nose up when I hook up my boat. I also added a set of Airlift 1000s in the back to help with rear sag.

Given all variables and considerations, I am really happy with how it turned out. The bigger tires are E range load, so the ride is a little rougher, but not bad.

Never liked the looks of leveled trucks. I like a little rake in the body. Rake also helps when towing so the truck doesn't look like a baby with a loaded diaper.

Mine is leveled and I like the everyday look. My truck was not made to tow that boat though and we have a cummins for that.

So your daily driver is a mall crawler?

Just put some king coilovers on and call it a day.
