dodge pickup dash removal - 08/08/16 08:50 AM

needing a blend motor replaced in my truck and the dealer wants an arm and a leg to replace it. it does require removing the dash to replace a $50 part so I understand the high cost for labor but i was hoping to maybe find someone who is qualified to do it cheaper. anybody ever tackled this before? any contacts appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

my truck had 6 of these actuators and a couple are ONLY accessible by removing the dash. i have researched this issue for a while. its because i have dual climate control.

Don't have any contacts for ya. I did mine myself, in fact the main reason these fail is that the contacts inside get bent and no longer make an electrical contact. I took mine out, pulled them apart and bent the contacts back into position. Once you reassemble them check them against a small battery. Been 2 years and they are still running strong.

What year?
I've done it on my 2000 to replace the water heater core.

2009 ram 1500 laramie with floor shifter which makes removing dash even more difficult.

This has a detailed list at how to remove the dash.

Make sure you know whats broke and what you need to replace. There are several different doors. One that selects fresh and cabin air, another that changes to the heat/AC selection and another that changes the different ducts blowing into the cabin. Its a pain to take out so I'd do the best I could to find the right duct. Also, my 2000 had weak doors. They used plastic and the plastic parts wear out. That makes it seem like the actuator when it may be the cheap plastic parts they use.

wow thx. mine blows heat on the drivers side with the ac on. i can hear something clicking in the dash as soon as i turn the key on. then it clicks sporadically while i drive.

I have personally pulled dozens of those dashes....on those models the doors usually break....which Chrysler doesn't just sell the part that's broken you have to buy part of the A/C box. those dashes are probably some of the easiest ive done.....the dash usually takes an hour or 2 to remove then about the same to remove the A/C and heater case. if the actuator is the only problem the dash can be pulled back a little to allow access without totally removing.
