Non ethanol gas.. - 01/31/16 04:45 PM

Got back from a work trip Thursday from Oklahoma City. While there was able to run non ethanol gas which was sold in several locations across town.I paid 10 cents more per gal than the the E-10 gas.I noticed a 1.5 mpg increase and felt the truck ran better overall. My question is,why cant we get this gas down here,is it an emission problem or a political issue.I would gladly pay more to run this fuel if I could.

Ethanol is simply a government mandate combined with subsidies for corn farmers. It is big government at its worst.

I get the mandate ...dont like it though....why can one state have both and another have no choice to make....am sitting here wondering why no outrage or concern from those who live in this state

You should speak up by calling your US congressman and your US senators asking them to eliminate the Renewable Fuel Standard. Ethanol has likely killed more small engine and outboards than most any other single cause.

May do just that...I would just settle for a choice to be able to buy one or the other

YOU CAN.... I DO.
you do have a choice. I get non-ethanol gas just 1/4 mile from my house here in Athens.
you just have to have a place willing to buy and sell it.

Yeah, and those farmers up in Iowa are just like most other welfare recipients, HOOKED ON GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE! You should hear 'em crying when they talk about taking away their subsidies. The US created a monster when they started us down this path to Ethanol and now I'm afraid that it's just like an addiction, the US is too weak to stop it.

We need everybody to write their congress people and senators about this. I did. texcajun is correct the govt as usual created a monster that affects more that just engines. Ethanol does not have to be made out of corn and with plentiful oil why bother with it at all. Biggest problem now is it burn and used in the bigger metro areas to reduce emissions.

85 octane non-eth vrs 94 octane eth prem.
What are you guys doing that have the high performance engines? Running the non-eth and adding octane booster or running the prem gas and adding a fuel treatment to remove the eth?

I have a merc 250XB that doesn't like the 85 octane non-eth...

The subsidy went away a couple years ago. They still get help setting up, at least I think they still do. Ethanol was cheaper to produce until it dropped under 2 bucks.
Marinas can still get non ethanol fuel. Its more common along the coast.

milled heads on mine. It is a carbureted 175. I run mainly premium with ethanol and add stabilizer only if I know I will not be using the boat on a regular basis. Ran ethanol free once and had to add octane boost. I think by the time I added it up I was at +$1/gallon on 12 gallon tank

This is the truth.

Most boat owners don't realize the seriousness of the risk of using ethanol.

If you really knew, you would do whatever it took to avoid using it.
