U Joints?

Are U Joints still used on the drive shafts of trucks? I have my 2002 F150 that makes like a clunk when you get on the gas.

Yes however your problem could be the slip yoke which is a common problem. Ford has a TSB on it although we mostly see it on around 2005-up but the part they usually is simply a kit of grease and a new clamp. You can also (if you can) get under the truck and check for play in the u-joints. This is where I would start. But to answer your question yes they have u joints in the drive shaft.

It's an FX4, I can get underneath it. From what I have read on F150 forums, it's the slip yoke from what other guys are describing. Apparently I will crawl underneath it and put it apart to grease it. It's just irratating as heck from a dead stop, clunk when I get on the gas.

Tundras have this problem too. I didn't have long term luck greasing mine. I just live with it now.

My 07 has been doing it since nearly new. I have greased it a couple of times now. It may last a couple of months then come back. I have learned to live with it.

My '02 Chevy Silverado 4x4 does the same thing, has for a couple of years.

The grease that comes with the ford kit seems to work better than standard grease. Its grease specific to this problem. Part number 9L3Z-4W602-A will run you about $18+ tax and I can get it for you if you want. I work parts at a Ford dealership. Hope this helps

Have the same issue with an '04 D-max. Greased it myself a few times and taken it to the dealer twice, it lasts about 5k miles when you grease it and starts again, now I just live with it.
