Wey down south of 410 u take the river trail all the wey to the end cross the cables an walk for probably 400 yards past a big gravel bar walk thru the river to the other side so left hand side and walk down the river side you will find a giant bluff wall probably 40' where the river makes a severe bend there's two 15-20' scour holes with good slack water and also bellow the Espada spillway there's some good fishin between the spillway and the next riffle south of the road time of day any really I like early morning to about one as long as there rolling it's a good time of day at least for me

Thanks for the reply! I have heard that the Floresville area where the SA river flows is pretty good for both Cats and Gar. Good areas to fish at the Floresville City Park.

Floresville does indeed have some fishy areas on the San Antonio river. Buddy and I used to fish a spot on the river and caught some big catfish on cut bait or shrimp. Cut bait was the best option. Believe it or not, I have even caught a big hybrid striper in the same location using a live crawdad. At the time, game warden said that was rare.

Yes sirs Ive been wanting to head down there and try it out using some cut buffalo to entice a big one there's a YouTube video called catching a sleeping giant ..fella caught I'd say at least a 35 maby 40 pound blue cat on a shrimp down there I usually fish the San Marcos around the palmetto state park in ottine there's an old dam that holds some good flathead and longnose but it saddens me to say that the bowfishermen have taken pretty much every single alligator gar from luling to Gonzales but I keep the faith that there's still an old head just waiting for me ... I was working cows in Colombus on the north side of I10 last week and we bayed sum cows up on the bank of the Colorado River where the Cummings creek flows in and it was an awesome spot creek flows in rite at a hard deep bend and I saw a couple of 80-120 fish rolling I gotta go back to the same place wensday Thursday Friday to work cows again but this time I'm bringing plenty of bait and a rod or two I'm hoping to cpr a couple of nice ones

Yes Sir there are some big fish further down river for sure! With the good rainfall we have been getting the river should be in pretty good shape for next year! thumb

Were you using "cut bait" on the gar?

Re: San Antonio River Longnose Gar Record ! - 11/21/16 02:38 PM

Yesser I was some fresh buffalo and bluegill the river was about a foot or so low I seen a few out in the middle channel rolling but the river around Columbus is fairly shallow and the current really comes sweeping thru there between the size of bait I had and 8oz of lead couldn't keep my bait where I wanted hopefully the river will rise a little and they will come up the creek mouth where i could use a float the man who owns the place told me when the river gets high enough to back up the creek they really pile up in it
