Solo Trip For Huge Prehistoric Alligator Gar

Made a solo trip for Alligator Gar around the middle of October, most of the day went pretty poorly, but on my way to the ramp i saw a 5 foot gar roll in a spot on the back side of a turn in the river, after not seeing much all day i put out three rods and ended up getting three runs in an hour or two. the first two runs were sneaky gar who managed to steal my cut common carp slices.
The third run took off at an alarming rate i managed to do everything right and got her hooked up while filming with one hand and fighting the fish with the other hand. She ended up being way bigger than i thought coming in at 6 foot 8 inches and around 38 inches making her around 160-170 pounds.
She was hooked in the corner of the mouth on the 3/0 non stainless treble hook i use and was released unharmed after a few pics, she was extremely happy to be back in her river.
The whole trip was just a reminder to make the best of the situation no matter what, and to stick to the things you are passionate about despite the hardships.

3/0 non stainless treble hook after it was removed from the fish, absolutely the perfect size hook for these fish any bigger and you will hurt the fish any smaller and you get a pretzel of a hook back
