Took some kids out for a birthday fishing party a few days ago. With a bit of coaching and properly set drag, 9 year old Griffin managed to land a 35.5 lbs giant.
Very nice. That looked like about all he could handle.
Pretty much. He barely managed to hold it up kneeling on the mat. Fought it like a pro though, only his second fish ever, first was a smaller carp earlier in the day.
He sure won't look at a bass the way other kids do.
Phil once little men experience banking fish near the 2 to 1 little man weight to fish weight ratio there is no going back.Still have fond memories of my son banking a big buff that was close to half his body weight, of coarse it's next to impossible for them to hold them out from their bodies at this size creating slimming memories for a lifetime that can't be washed away!
Tell me about it. My kids have caught some in that ratio over the years. Most recently, my 10 year old caught a 30+ lbs carp, kid weights around 60-65 lbs. Had trouble holding it for a pic, just like the kid in the pic above:
Older son caught a nice sturge in the 85 lbs class last summer, same deal:
