welcome To the Texas Fishing Forum! Glad to have you on board. cheers I do not target Carp but have followed this section. Carp are found in just about all Texas waters. I have caught many over the years while fishing for Sunfish. I was using regular worms on a size six or eight hook. I know this does not help you much but there are some very good Carp Anglers who every now and then will post something. Hopefully one of them will reply! Best of luck! thumb

Side Note: Love seeing those catches! hooked

Send a pm to Fishwerwood ( Brian Sherwood) He can probably help. You really will need some help in that area, but there are areas with 20+lb commons. Lake Houston has an amazing lake record over 40lbs. There are several very expeeinced euro style carp anglers there but have not been very active on this forumn lately.Their is a guy named Nick and also another very expeienced angler in that area called the Carpenter.

Hi Louie
Not sure about clubs in Houston anymore; a couple of years ago we had an active club (Wild Carp Club of Houston) but the umbrella organization folded and the main local organizer, Nick Davis, relocated to Ohio.
I'm in Dallas now, so I can clue you in to some of the better swims but do not know about the fishing activity anymore.
There are plenty of grass carp in all of the bayous, including Buffalo Bayou downtown. There have also been a few commons caught there, into the low teens.
The lower stretches of Greens, Braes, and Sims bayous hold good populations, but being close to he ship channel the locations can be somewhat dodgy, especially after dark. One of my favorites is Braes Bayou just north east of I-45 south, off Wayside and Sylvan. There is a nice little park there. Up to 20lbs but avg low teens.
For overnight you can try the Lake Houston Marina, but be forewarned it can be busy. Up to 25lb have been caught, both commons and grassers.
Lake Woodlands has a low stock of commons to near thirty, but you have to work for them.
Small commons and sm buffalo to near 30lbs have been caught in Sugarland off Hwy 6 and Fluor Daniel.

What part of Houston are you in?

Hi Brian
I am in Spring area. Went to lake Houston yesterday but the boats kept on hooking the lines making it impossible to keep a line in for more than 30 mins. Went to BJ's Marine.

Thanks for all the feedback from everyone.

carp anglers of north texas : Guess I'm not wanted there, I've been blocked or banned, etc. Guess it's because I also catch and use smaller carp for cut bait. smh...

If I lived in spring i would focus more on lake woodlands. Its a tough spot to fish but can be very rewarding.

Hey Justin I was hoping you'd pipe in!

Are you still active with carping? Or too busy with the family thing? smile
