Very nice Buffalo, Goldens, & Flathead! Beautiful fish! Yea, CPR those monsters. Those tacklebusters have earned the right to swim another day and give someone else an adrenline rush. Fish like those will let you know your alive. So I hear, like most fish the smaller ones 1-3 pounds are the best ones for the table.

I can catch big cats very consistently, but I have tried carp and not a bite. I've tried at Toledo Bend even when I can see them jumping and nothing. Tried using corn, with a tiny hook on slacked line, even with "pack" bait. Only caught a small catfish on it. Not sure what they want. I have read the "how to" instructions on this page and tried several things. Anyone have suggestions?
well finding them is the first thing, you did that
there is what's called the euro method, it's complex using a "hair rig" style rigging and the use of bait runner reels and bite alarms but if you want to just go "old school" the sticky explains it well.
what I use when old schooling is a Carolina rig using a small circle hook, and a sliding sinker, I use a split shot perhaps 2 inches above the hook, I use regular corn and string maybe 6 or 7 kernels covering the complete hook including the shaft and even up the line abit, I like to use a flavor, dipping the corn in the flavor, then cast it out to your desired spot and "tighten" the line, you don't want a slack line, then I adjust my drag very loose to a point where it's free spooling, I will then take a handful of corn and toss it in the area i casted to and wait, when you get a hit the carp normally just run with it, very rarely will they just peck at it like Catfish will do, when they run you cup then reel, at the same time lifting the rod to set your hook, tighten drag as fast as possible and hold on.

^^^^^^ thats how its done to a T...
If you fish an area consitantly, youll need to move to hair rigs because carp learn quickly and will mouth the bait to check for hooks.... also... bombing or slingshotting chum... or even the PVwhatever things work like champs.. you can bait an area over a week and train them to feed there
try using range cubes as your chum, works very well and is rather cheap, you can find it at any feed store
Range cube on a hair works well too
you should leave them guppies alone Chris and catch some real fish

Hair Rig: A rig with a small length of line (the "hair") extending from the shank of the hook; bait is attached to the hair, leaving the hook fully exposed.

I'll leave them alone when I get my 40lb common and 65 buff. Lol.
It's all realative guys. My son and I spent 95% of our time fishing in july and august and could'nt even pay anybody to fish with us. I remember an Emma long CAG fishin when my son and I were noobs and hauled in some nice teeners in 103 degree heat alone after nobody showed up cause of heat wave..Still proud of our our 37 lb late fall lake austin common and a 42 lb july buffalo.Mid summer monster buffs when others won't get off their butts! We still have fond memories of pushing the boundaries.Everybody keep on fishing!

Would be an honor to share the bank with you and your son one of these days bro, next time I plan a trip to Austin I will shoot you a PM, I have not been down there in quite awhile , well since they redid everything so i'm not up to par on the parking situation at the swims, my favorite spots like Eilers and Melrose are no longer fishable and I heard 1st street has pay parking only and they redid a few other swims so i'm at your mercy lol.
All the damns at every colorado river lake have multiple gates open right now it's a whole new crazy ballgame Mr. Clark!
With the gates open at Tom Miller Dam the river was clocked at 20 mph at redbud a few days ago.I have not fished LBL or even been down there in over 4 years.I'm sure I would be lost with all the changes.Hopefully not many trophy fish are being swept out of LBL.Let us pray! NICE FISH SHOW guys!
I 2nd Buffaloman on that 40 and 65!
I remember when I fished started fishing LBL, my 1st session landed me a low 30 and a 30 buff as well and my bro Ben a high 30, was such a fun trip.
Just ran an errand in town and went by I35 west.Looks like about 3-5mph current. The boatramp looks pretty grown up with weeds. Lots of parking meters all along the streets back through the kiddie park area. Can see all the new contruction along the other side of the river and over by Melrose.
P. M. sent for current LBL june fatty idea.
Maybe when things cool down Mr Green?
It's ALL about fall 40's for the rest of this year!
