Somewhere In Texas DINOSAURS Still Swim The Rivers - 05/17/16 03:46 PM

i fished a remote stretch of river with no rod and reel water body record for alligator gar, ended up hooking 4 nice gar in a few hours, this one went 6 foot 6 inches and 140 pounds and fought me as hard or harder than any gar i have caught, she had me stuck in mud passed my knees while she just kept pushing hard for 15 minutes or more before i could finally retrieve my gopro and catch the footage seen here.
Alligator gar are one of the largest and oldest fish on the planet fossil records indicate they have been around relatively unchanged since the Cretaceous period 100,000,000 years ago swimming the same areas they swim today.

no weight and common carp, smallmouth buffallo or gizzard shad for bait is best i use a 3/0 non stainless treble hook

I have two places by me on the east fork that I see them and hooked a few times but my gear just isnt big enough lol. Another spot I can catch them but smaller ones and they are gator gar not spotted gar up to a few feet long. A lot of them there but a lot of spotted gar as well so have to weed thru them. Thing I noticed not sure if this is notmal but when the spotted come up they just nip the surface vut these gator gar seem to attack and sounds like a fridge dropped in the water. Thats what made me notice them while fishing for carp and catfish aat these spots. Saw one guy get one ti yhe bank which is rare to see people fishing at these spots. At the bank it looked 8ft at least and he caught it fishing for catfish. I havent checked this year at these spots since hubbard has been releasing so much it keeps the area muddy. Im sure they are there ive been seeing them for years in these spots and what is the same is deep holes in both places. Thats why I fish them in the summer and both you have to walk to but not a long walk. If I had the gear I would fish for.them more but the other problem is a lot of snags after they cime out of the hole,as in trees in the water. Someone wants to try for them let me know all I ask I wanna watch lol live ti see one landed since I cant seem to do it lol
