Fishing For Redhorse

Fishing For Redhorse - 04/28/16 05:07 PM

I have caught a few of these for the first time in the creeks while sand bass fishing, while they are making their spawning run too. I'd like to work on fishing specifically for them and other suckers. Read a few articles online but they only covered baits and locations for the spring spawn. Does anyone target them outside the spawn? Where do I go to find them, and should I still use a jig with an earthworm on it or something else?

Finding them in clear water is best, or find deep runs float a worm or if you flyfish a nymph. This just applies to rivers and creeks.very spooky ,so use finnese techniques. Wherever there are catfish usally there is a school nearby.

they can be tough to catch after the spawn, but Creekflyfisher54 is correct about either worms or nymph fishing if you fly fish

Finding them is definitely key...
Suckers and redhorse prefer clean and clear waters; not so easy to find in NE Texas, but more common in the hill country.
