I am always willing to help a new carp angler. I go every day. Heading our right now to catch some carp at my local pond in Denton. Are you willing to make the drive to Denton to get on some carp?

So do you want to learn how to carp fish so you can use them as bait?

No, just trying to learn. There is a small lake by my house that I have been told is great for Carp so I'd like to get some experience so that I can have an option close to home. I have used Carp for bait before though, good bait if you don't have Shad. Why? Is that looked
Down upon in the Carp Section?

Many of the carp anglers here on the TFF are catch and release. Most here don't have any isssues with the some of smaller carp being kept for bait in most lakes that have a healthy population. If you release the big ones for breeding it will help insure a sustainable harvest.Scott used to live in the DFW area and has seen some small lakes and ponds in the area that used to have fabulous carp angling be over harvested and wiped out.

That is certainly not my intentions.
I am just looking for a way to have some fun fishing without driving an hour to
Where I catfish. I ha e never targeted Carp for bait, only used it when I stumbled upon
One while catfishing.

Well carp are really a hidden secret here in the USA amobo45, and you will not find a readily accessible harder fighting fish in USA freshwaters. Most of the carp anglers consider ourselves sport fisherman but most are still understanding if someone wants to use some for catfishing. There is plenty to learn about catching carp and the gear involved but it is worth it and there are many carp anglers willing to help. The best way to start is to check out the carp fishing beginers links sticky thread at the top.Be ready for an addiction to carp fishing!

Re: New to carp - 02/17/16 03:07 AM

you can make it easy if you want just use 2 or 3 cans of sweet corn, and chum a half handful every 10-15 min. i fish light line(4lb) and small j hooks with the smallest split shot you can get away with.
its a fish eat fish world out there, i respect all fish regardless of their species. that said i use common carp and smallmouth buffallo for alligator gar bait. why? because thats what alligator gar eat.
