Nice! What are you feeding it?

Krill and blood worms from the pet store. It prefers the krill. There are lots of grass shrimp in the Frio so I guess that's why it prefers the krill

Sweet, had one I caught out of tips park on the frio just a little bigger than that one. He out grew my aquarium fast and I turned him loose.

I fed him perch about an inch long. He could eat 25 of them at a time, his stomach would swell up to double his original size and then he wouldn't eat for several days. One of the coolest fish I ever had. Talk about tuff, you could reach in pick him up and pet him then put him back... then he started biting when you did that.

my brother and I had a baby alligator gar many years ago. caught him in a cast net in the frio river. he was only about 4-5in long. kept him in a fish aquarium for a while. would go to the pet store and buy feeder goldfish for him. as he got bigger he would eat almost 5 or 6 of them at a time. it was AWESOME to watch him strike. he eventually kinda outgrew the tank. we named him pokey....we released him back. figured we could probably get in trouble for turning him loose somewhere he didn't belong, but didn't have the heart to kill him. we'd had too much fun with him. they are a native species though, so maybe it wasn't illegal to release him. I dunno. that's been a long time ago. if he's still alive then he's huge by now.

Hopefully indicates a successful spawn during the flood events back in April/May.
