Logo Design For YouTube Fishing Channel

I have been following an angler on YouTube, as well as many others, and he is in need of a logo. He lives up in New York and has about 20 videos out so far. It had been a while since I had flexed my design skills, so I threw this together last night while watching an episode of Star Trek. He said he really likes it and will be using it. His name is Ryan, His channel is 3Vane.Outdoors on YouTube.

Look pretty good. I would try to add some color to it! Just my two cents.

What kind of program or app you use to make these? I need to make one for my youtube channel but im graphic illiterate.

I actually will use Paint and Microsoft word to work out a design such as the lay out and text. I will then bring it into photoshop to make editing easier as well as formatting.
