Those were probably Texas Rat Snakes. Basically the same thing, but with all the reclassifications of species, I believe the Great Plains is in the Pantherophis family and the Texas Rat is Elaphe Nerd stuff that nobody really cares about lol.
But Texas Rat's look pretty similar and are a much more common snake that is seen.

Cool! thanks for details. Also when it was raining so much, I had to relocate out of the wood pile one of the biggest bull snakes I have ever seen, he was about 7' and 6" round and was not a happy camper with me moving him.

That would have been awesome! Bull's are typically pissy, but have a cool hiss to sound like a Rattlesnake. Finding that would have been a big mark off want list. Glad to hear you relocate and not kill every snake you see.

Re: SNAKE Surprise this Morning in the Flower Bed - 07/31/1502:24 AM
Hey yes that's a prairie kingsnake. The v on the head points backwards instead of forwards like on the Texas rat snake and the Great Plains rat snake. Those snakes look very similar. I think this is a mild tempered snake- rarely bites. Very cool! I think that's actually pretty close to full adult size.
