More Texoma pictures ***UPDATED 5.20.15*** - 05/16/15 05:24 AM

First a little history about lake Texoma if you don't know. Construction for the dam started in 1939 which was also in the middle of World War 2 and The Great Depression. As you could imagine this was a huge boom for the area of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma during the depression. Supposedly the construction of the dam employed over 350 men and countless German POW's. 21 deaths were reported during the construction period.

The lake has gone over the spillway 3 times since it was completed. Once in 57 (pic below) where it was 3' over, again in 1990 where it was almost 5' over and lastly in 2007 where it was only about 1.5' over the spillway.

On a side note, my dad has a picture of his 1/2 ton pick up sitting in the middle of the lake on frozen ice. This would have been before my time in the early 80s. Ill see if my mom can email the picture to me. Pretty cool to see. I would never have believed it considering much surface water there is had he not showed me the pictures.

I saw these on Instagram. I did not take them but they were all taken around Highport.

The 3rd picture really shows how high it is... This is inside of The Island Bar.

Last picture is the first time the lake went over the spillway in 1957.

This photo was taken on 5.18.15 by the same person who took the other 3.

My buddy had a next door neighbor, dead now, that worked on the dam as an engineer and his arrowhead collection from there and the Amistad dam were amazing !!

Got a couple of cool fossils myself when the lake was low, for more reasons than one we needed the rain.

Thanks for the memories
