Ever have a black cloud hanging over you on a clear day?

Ever have a black cloud hanging over you on a clear day? - 09/14/17 03:12 PM

Yesterday was a beautiful clear, cool, calm day except for the black cloud.

I fished with a "Guy" all morning and we each caught approx 100 crappie. We used identical baits and 1/16 oz. jig heads. Only obvious difference was the line used. He used 6# clear mono and I used braid with a clear leader. As stated above we caught the same number of fish. At noon we had 15 nice ones in the live well. I caught the first one and he caught the rest.

Normally we pretty much break even on everything but today it must have been the black cloud. cry mad

Interesting..I've had that happen as well. Just curious but how long of a leader do you use?

presentation can differ too. Sometimes they bite only if you keep it still...

I could picture you two guys going at on a brush pile. Good job old timer.

Yeah, just finished night shifts this morning and all week I went out about 4 am and took walks to clear my head. Awesome weather. Wellllll, that's coming to an end this week unfortunately, as Summer make one last appearance.

Still, I might go to the Office early Friday and just clear my head. Let me know what colors and depth was the best.

Guy has gone back to the basics. I have personally seen an improvement.

P.S. The good fish were still biting this morning. I went it alone to review/study some things with my graphs.

clap Always enjoy your story's Mr.Paty.

Something similar today. Most times, I fish brushpiles with 2 rods, one in each hand. The set-ups are identical, same rod, line, leader, jig, and bait. This morning, they would only hit one rod. I could switch which hand the rod was in, and they would still hit the same rod 5 to 1. I could switch my boat position and same thing. I soaked the slow bait with Slab Slobber, thinking maybe there was some smell they might be picking up on but no change.

Fork is fishing excellent right now. The quality of the fish has been phenomenal. Sour grape (purple/chartreuse) has been my go to bait for the last 2 weeks. With the Big Bass Splash here for the weekend, I'll do maintenance until the madness is over.

Yeah. I heard about that butt kicking all morning. I use about 16" leaders. Fish were hitting bait as it fell, either on the cast or after a missed strike as it fell back. Rarely felt the strikes, just saw the lure stop falling. I don't think it was the equipment since I used his new rod for awhile to check it out and the result was the same. Just seemed strange that even though we caught the same number of fish, his were just bigger.

Well I'm going again in the morning to see if they will hit mine with 6# mono any better. I'm hard headed but not stupid.
