What a day, what a brush pile! - 06/09/17 02:18 PM
A couple of friends and I fished with guide Kevin Kubiak on Lake Somerville yesterday. The day started out like a lot of others. Kevin worked five or six brush piles in the first couple of hours to help us put 15 keepers in the boat while figuring out the day's pattern.
Around 11, he had it dialed in and took us to a spot he thought might pay off and it did in a big way. For the next three hours we boated 60 keeper crappie up to 1.65 pounds, probably 40 or more dinks and two nice bass that weighed 7 and 5 pounds. Wrapped up a very fun trip at 2 p.m. with a three-man limit.
Most fish were caught around 12-feet deep. All caught on hand-tied jigs or plastics.
I've known Kevin for a few years from fishing against him in CAT tournaments. Only fished with him a couple of times, but both times he has worked hard to put a bunch of fish in the boat. If you're interested in fishing the lakes he guides on in Central Texas, he's definitely worthy of a call.
Thanks for the great trip, Kevin
