Cheap Lowrance or Humminbird Down Imaging unit? - 05/25/17 07:43 PM

Looking to get the cheapest down imaging unit just for the front of the boat

When i mark brush piles with side imaging at the console i need down imaging at the front so i know exactly where the brush pile is

does lowrance sell a down imaging unit for around 100$?

I've had my eye on the Humminbird Piranahamax 4 DI. I found it for around $130 in store I believe. Got a chance to play with it and thought it was a nicer unit than the similar priced lowrance units

You really don't need down imaging in the front. 2D sonar works just fine for that. My front unit can do down imaging but I don't set it to do it. I prefer 2D sonar.

Check difference in degree of coverage before making decisipn 2d or Di.

When you are parked on a brush pile your DI sonar will show a blob just like you will see on 2D. In Fact 2D will actually show you more detail over DI sonar. To get that crisp DI image you must be moving.

I bought two for my Yaks and decided a different route after installing the first one
I do like the vertical position verses the horizontal of the Helix units
The DI is MILES better then those that talk alot of smack about this unit
No,its not a 4 $$ digit laptop you bolt to your boat,it does what it says it will do for the price.
Ill get you my spare/extra for less then $100 shipped just to give it a home
I bought mine at Cabellas, check their price and thats your savings
Drop me a message and Ill get you hooked up fair and square

THIS!! is never considered using DI
Even in my Yak with my cheapo 4DI this indeed applies
I can mark a spot(buoy) and then cruise back over the spot moving across and get a good bit more info then I had setting over head
Not sure how that works out with my unit but some 30yrs later Im still dropping floaters with results
