Fish measure board

Fish measure board - 05/19/17 01:25 AM

Was watching a salt water fishing show, that had a measuring board that looked like a good idea.
The part you held the fishes head against folded drown flat when not in use.
It could be mounted on a deck without being a trip hazard.

Anyone seen these?

Re: Fish measure board - 05/19/17 01:58 AM

I want to mount it on the deck, with nothing sticking up to trip over.
The one I saw was hinged, laid flat till you want to measure.
Screw it down , always handy.

Use 2 pieces of tape no tripping

Re: Fish measure board - 05/19/17 03:14 AM

We have a check it stick mounted on the side of the boat at the back and one up front on the side where no one would be walking.
Guess it all depends on how your boat is set up.

I use a piece of tape measured to 11" on my crappie sticks
From the foam or cork of the top section of the handle
I can measure even before unhooking
Yes 11 inches is my minimum

Hard to beat the Frabill EZ Crappie Checker

Re: Fish measure board - 05/21/17 03:47 AM

Let me explain again. I have a center console with side by side seating just behind front deck.
I want to permanently mount a device on the deck , easy reach from both seats. Never have to reach for it or ask someone where they stowed last. Or have it blow out of the boat. I could mount a check it or a golden rule, but I can see someone tripping on the part that would sticks up .
I know there is one out there, but I may have to build it myself.
Thank for all the replies
Good luck

I understand what you are wanting and I have seen a couple. The ones I have seen are plastic and not very sturdy though. I think one is made by Rapala.

Edit: Academy has it online and it is only $6 so I guess at that price if it didn't last it wouldn't be a big deal to keep replacing it.

Mo,
You can Mount a Check it on the side of the boat.

You can put one on both sides and no one will trip over anything.

The one mounted in the back of my boat when I want to measure the fish it's like I'm holding the fish up to the wall.

Just trying to help. I don't see the Check It as a tripping hazard unless you mount it on your floor.

Ours is on the wall of the boat on the side.

Mo, this makes too much sense. I still subscribe to the old school. I buy one about every six months because it blow out, or get stepped on. Good luck.

I want where I want it smile.
Sides of the boat are not flat , never ever fish out of the back of the boat.
Perfect spot is back edge of the front deck.
I may take a hacksaw and grinder to my golden rule and attach a hinge.

I still think it would be easier and better to have two Frabill EZ Crappie Checker in the boat!

Re: Fish measure board - 05/24/17 12:30 AM

With the Frabil EZChek'r, two things:

Make sure the 10" mark is 10". I have one that I measured and it came up short. I added some white duck tape 1/4" down the ruler, so I know any fish I check is long enough. That dark tail stands out against the white tape, so its quick and easy.

Some crappie shorter than 10" are too wide to allow the nose touch the stop (black crappie more than white). Make sure the nose is touching for an accurate measurement.

Re: Fish measure board - 05/24/17 01:31 AM

Have had one of these "Fish Taco"'s for a long time. I don't use anything else or those cheapo plastic deals that fish flop out of easily.

Fish Taco

Just me, but won't go back to anything else. If I need another, I'll order one from Scott. The back edge is 10" (he also has one for bass at 14"). You can squeeze it and hold the fish easily (the nose end for the fish's head has a lil flap to hold the fish in).

My.02 for what it's worth...

Why I recommended the Fish Taco (think I paid around $10, though think Scott gives them for free with a guided trip).

$30.00 or more to measure fish? No thanks, though if you're a guide I could see that if they are wanting something to advertise their guide business on.

I have had the same setup for years on a few of my poles. Mainly for fishing sandies while wading out from shore. For awhile, back in the 90's, Stren fishing line came with an adhesive ruler just for that purpose. You can also take a sharpie and mark your pole at 10,12, and 18 which covers most anything I'll be fishing for.
