san gabriel question

hey yall. heath got me all excited with that picture of that 17 incher, and I was thinking about heading up there to WMA 7 to see if I can snag some. my question for yall that are more experienced with crappie is:

with this weather pattern we've had in Central Texas (mostly warm winter with rain every week or two), and with a front coming in this weekend with more rain, would you bother wetting a line? I've had great fishing in front of storms, but never really tried in the "winter" time.

anyways, just curious if yall had any thoughts. if my boss approves my day off tomorrow I imagine I'll end up out there regardless, but figured I'd throw this out there while I'm sitting here at work

Your better fishing will be at night in the river.
It's usually better if you fish at fox's Bottom when the wind is out of the north.
With a south wind, your cork will blow back to ya pretty quick and you will be casting a bunch to get it away from bank.
It seems like I had better luck fishing there over the years when the wind was calm or out of the north.

Bank fishing during the day there is usually not that good.

If you do fish, I'll probably see you as I pass by in my boat, going up river to do some slow trolling!

Thanks for the tips on wind direction and fishing Fox's bottom. I wanted to make it out there soon but will hold off till the south wind changes.

Thanks for the detailed response Kevin. You sure are right about day fishing. I think I got one bite Friday morning using artificials and even tried a few minnows for the heck of it. Didn't seem at all interested in what I was throwing.

I made it out Thursday evening to Dickersons and lost a couple of fish to faulty line, but everyone fishing the area was catching. they were biting 3 inch flukes in that smoky shad color on white 1/8 oz jigheads 1.5-2ft under a slip bobber. Wanted to hit up WMA #7 but it's closed for construction.

Assuming we get a decent weekend soon I'll be doing the same with my canoe and little motor. Really wanted to see what Comanche Bluff might be holding but didn't feel like the walk after I almost lost a boot in a mudsuck getting to my first spot.
