Junior Anglers fish - 10/05/16 02:39 PM

I have two beautiful crappie mounts that I need to get to the rightful owners.
I have Savannah Hill's and Addie Edgett's fish and would love to get them on their walls.
David.....tried calling your number but it didn't work. This is Savannah's fish, for some
reason I never took a picture of Addie's.....but I have it!!! PM me, email or call. We'll work
something out.

Todd......here are a couple of my own personal fish. I get to do them the way I want to see them and experiment with different color paints, etc.
The male was 1.89# and the female was 2.26. Caught in different lakes and mounted on an oak stump I found when the lake here was real low. But they will adorn my bedroom wall soon. Wife reserves the fireplace mantel for "decorations"!!!!! I plan on doing a TFF free mount next year. Just have to figure out how to run it. Heck.......the little man will probably get big fish for the year next year.......which is a free mount for CAT!!!!

Your fish are incredible. I still have my 2.75 from Fork back in 2012...wrapped in the freezer. I'll be bringing you one soon.

Re: Junior Anglers fish - 10/05/16 06:21 PM

Thanks gentleman!!! I will be taking 4 fish to the CAT championship....including Wesley's fish, Brian. I can't thank Jana, Rhonda and Jay Don enough for helping me out and taking a couple more for me. I ran out of room in the shop and Jay offered a wall at the office. I have done 5 big spawning males this year and more than a ½ doz. crappie from Texas that were over 3#!!!! I bet next year is even better! Crappie have so many colors that I apply at least 4 colors to each scale individually. Can't do that with an air brush carpet bombing!!!!!

Thanks again!!!

Depends. I have about 5 hrs. into a good crappie. That is not taking into account once I skin one in soaks in a preservative for a day, dries for over a month, dries for a day before I gloss, etc., etc. Of course I have many going at one time so I just keep switching tasks. I once had a crappie mailed in from up north that the guy decided to do it "his way" Mailed it ground USPS on a Tuesday. Got to Austin(on of those deals) on Friday and sat somewhere until Monday. Arrived with the mail lady holding her nose on Tuesday. It was ripe!!!! I talked to another taxi in Texas and he said he would pitch it. Talked to a master fish taxi in Michigan and he said, "if it still has skin.....theoretically it can still be mounted"! It took me about 3 hrs. just to skin it. Worked on it refroze and very cautiously! Don't want to think of what it cost me to do it......but I considered it a "learning experience"! Don't know if I would do another, but I would have been ill thinking of a 3½# crappie that went in the trash!
Then there was the time I was touching up a crappie before glossing. Now before I gloss a fish....it HAS to be done because there is no "touch up" after that. I reached over to grab the gloss and accidentally picked up a can of white Krylon primer and jacked that fish up instantly. Lacquer thinner and 0000 steel wool baby!!! Back to square one!!!!!
It actually takes me less time to do a bass than a crappie, but a bluegill, coppernose, longear or pumpkinseed take a LONG time to paint and detail.....IF they are done well.
