Sinking brush

Sinking brush - 07/05/16 01:11 AM

Put out some more brush this past weekend. I think we figured out the best way to do it now. Filled up my father in law's boat with brush, already had weights tied on them. Pulled his boat behind mine til we got to the location and pushed them over the side. It only took us about 20 minutes to get these set out.

I guess I can plan on losing more jigs now. Got my parts now so it won't be much longer and we can fish together.

Anchored with cinder blocks.

Easiest way is to stack 3 cinder blocks tied together offset from each other. Stick 4 or 5 12' stalks into each hole butt end first. It will make a huge X. Since the cane (or bamboo) is filled with air pockets, the ends will float upward.

Looks like this...

You secure them to the cinder blocks with line, Jacob?

Not the bamboo. Stick it far enough in that the limbs hold them in place. The tree tops we tie to the blocks. Some folks put a 2 liter bottle on the top to make it stand upright.

They both work, it's just matters where you put it. Such as a drop off on a long point, a depression on a flat, side of a creek channel where deep water close by. Go for it and share where you drop them! smile

Re: Sinking brush - 07/10/16 09:39 PM

Any structure like Ranger-188 said, but we put these in a large area of the lake where it's pretty flat and void of any structure. That way any crappie that are in that area are attracted to the only brush there.

Re: Sinking brush - 07/11/16 07:26 PM

I have become a major fan of bamboo in the last 2 years. It is easy to put out and holds fish very well. Not to mention I hardly ever loose a jig in it. The only downside is that it needs to be refreshed once a year.

A drop-off is a good place. It gives the crappie the choice of having the deep and shallower water nearby.

Good luck!

My neighbor does and I am joining him. I have a lot of work to do. In Rayburn that is. He has been very busy over the years. It sounds a lot like Beach Basin.

I particularly like to sink hardwoods I've been fishing some piles for 25 years. Less working, more fishing.
