Dipping/Jigging Poles: B'n'M Bucks Gold/Other

Dipping/Jigging Poles: B'n'M Bucks Gold/Other - 06/01/16 06:24 PM

I've only used casting rods and short (5'6") rods for crappie. I'm interested in dipping/jigging now.

So far, I think I like what I see in the B'n'M Bucks Gold 10 ft rod. Anyone have something to say about it as a dipping pole?

Any other suggestions? I've seen the telescopic, multi pieces, etc. I've also seen the fancy cane pole types that you feed line manually, ones with built in reels, some for baitcaster type reels, and the ones that take spinning reels. Which type do you prefer and why? I understand that the ones with no reel/small reels are more for horsing them out of cover....is a buck's gold with a spinning reel not suited for this role?

I have a shimano 500 that I have in mind for this rod, but if I am open to all suggestions. As said, I want it for dipping/jigging. Most of this fishing would be done in shallow cypress-Tupelo lakes 2-5ft deep and treetops. I'd like to be able to use Minnows as well as jigs if that matters.

Thanks,

My favorite is the 12' B&M Bucks Best Ultra-lite with bottom reel seat. It's on the expensive side at about $60 but it's my go to dipping rod. It's super light, very well balanced and extremely sensitive. I love the bottom reel seat as it makes it fish more like a 13'.

What type of reel and what line do you use with it?

I'd like to stay under $100 so that's still in the price range

The telescoping rods and imitation cane poles are not worth any price IMHO. Don't waste your money. You can get a ProAngler 8 ft for $48 and a 10 ft for $55, price includes shipping. Excellent rods, very light, sensitive, with plenty of backbone. You will be pleased. Website is http://proanglertackle.com/CrappieRods.htm

Pro Angler are good, inexpensive rods. Heard nothing but good things about Boneheads, though I have never used one.q I make my own. I like 9' the best. Can get out there, but not too top heavy.

Sam Heaton Super Sensitive here... I've got a 10' and 12'. I think I paid $60 per rod... They are extremely sensitive but enough back bone to lift 2# crappie out of brush.

I use a baitcaster reel with 10# mono. Duck Jerky uses a baitcaster reel and braid.

The Bucks Gold is a nice rod. It has plenty of backbone and a sensitive tip. You won't go wrong with that rod.

FYI - The first eyelet up from the reel is a bigger eyelet more for a spin cast reel so your Shimano will work fine with that rod.

This. I bought the 10' two weeks ago and it became my favorite dipping rod after the first trip. Have been out three times with it and it is the best I have ever used, light, strong, and VERY sensitive. I highly recommend it.

I'll throw a vote in for Proanglers. Ken is spot on in his description. I have a 10 and 2 8'ers. I let my dad use one of mine in the spawn and he now has an 8'.
