Felt the THUMP at Lavon today. Thanks, TFF! - 05/30/16 01:32 AM
Well, after spending more hours than I care to admit installing new electronics on my 18-foot G3 tin boat and reading through thousands of posts about crappie-catching techniques, today I finally did it. Found them on standing timber at Lavon, and using a 10-foot Pro Angler rod with a bait-caster and white/chartreuse rocky tops, I did what others have so patiently taught.
Caught a bunch, including 8 keepers and a really nice 15-incher, in four hours before the storm hit.
TFF has taught this Missouri boy SO MUCH about how to fish for crappie. And truth be told, I thought I was pretty dang good already! Been fishing constantly since I was a little boy … started on smallies in the Ozark streams and moved on from there. But I never really understood how to eliminate water, use electronics and maps, shoot docks and fish for crappie where the odds were greatest -- using proven techniques -- until I found TFF. Today it paid off.
I’ll go to my grave believing the best-ever quote about fishing was from Nathaniel Hawthorne, who said, “Some men fish their entire lives without ever realizing it’s not really the fish they’re after.” But thanks to all of y’all – especially, lately, Jerry Hancock, whom I’ve never met but hope to someday – I also like that kickass quote: “There's nothing like the THUMP!”
(I had my son take a pic of a 10-incher and the beast!)
