Murvaul After The Storm - 04/21/16 02:36 AM
Went to Lake Murvaul yesterday afternoon after work. Started fishing at 530 and finished around 8. Came home with 19 keepers (caught 25 or so overall). Lake had went up 3-4 feet in a matter of three days since I had been there last, due to all the localized storms we've experienced of late. I fished the pier at Decker/Hill Park. The water level was about four inches from walkway of pier. Ordinarily you're fishing in 10-12 ' of water right there, but today it was more like 15'. I ordinarily like to chunk my jig as far under the pier as I can to get bit, but all I could do today was fish the cracks, then reach under and try to lip them as I hooked them. Only lost 3 fish doing it this way, but they ALL would have been keepers. Always heard that fishing would be almost non-existent for three or four days following such a drastic increase of fresh water in a lake. These the fish on this day didn't receive that memo!! Biggest was just over 15' with two more over 13'. Over the past couple of weeks I've personally caught some of the biggest crappie of my life. Love this lake, and when the day finally comes when I get that Crestliner "Outlook", I'm really gonna do some damage on the crappie population. Until then - Lookin for a 3#er!! Gonna go tomorrow after work to see if I can cash in again. Oh by the way, Bobby Garland "Monkey Milk" did most of the damage yesterday.
