You know, it would have been a great one to do. However, it has killed me to stay quite the last month and a half about this one. The funny part is I had to convince him to go get it weighed for the record. It had been on ice all night before he called and told me about it at that Saturday 0800 on 02/13/2016! When he sent me the pic I called and told him to not be like me and regret it. I caught a 12# Flathead on an UL crappie reel and jig a few years back and did not get it certified. So it is not an April fools job... THIS IS REAL! Besides the pics don't lie.

No BS, No Joke.
Yes exactly like my bro said, I didn't even want to certify it in because we were not brought up to brag or show off, but then a little convincing helped me decide to certify it since it is most likely once in a lifetime fish, and o I might as well knock someone off their high horse.

just goes to show, you never know what will happen when fishing and where it will happen.
Many times when the "big one gets away" we wonder, how big it really was.
Thanks for sharing your prize and story, and you are the true picture of what a sportsman really is!!!!!

Holy smokes that is a helluva slab I received a text pic of it were you were weighing it on a digital scale and rumor mill was just as bad as the 244 inch whitetail that was harvested this year from Granger lake proof is in the pudding congratulation.

Yep you never know what's lerking around in the water. I've had a few get away and yes we all wonder what if and what it was.
Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it.

Thanks bro. That digi scale pretty much worthless since it showed a good half pound less than it was.

You and me both. Finally received the certificates on 3/31. Still waiting on another TX State department to get me a certain license.
any estimate on the fishes age?

Re: NEW LAKE GRANGER RECORD! - 04/06/16 03:32 AM
Not sure how accurate this chart below is, but this is what I found. If that is right it is saying that the fish would have been around 12 years old or so?

Thank you. I'd say yes he's helped me learn a hella lot and hooked me into crappie fishing. Fishing, its in our blood. Our dad deserves the praise for always having us out on the lakes or in the gulf teaching and imbedding fishing in our souls.

Truly a fish of a lifetime. Congrats to you especially for your modest attitude.
Catching a 3lb crappie is something most of us will never achieve fishing here in Texas. Glad you were able to have the experience!

It gave me a fight for sure. Pulling it in on an ultra light was like the fight I had pulling in a 100# halibut in Homer, AK on a deep sea rod.
First time Ive called for the net for a crappie which I never thought I would.
