Is there a decent slab lake near Amarillo, is there a guide service near? What about ute or Logan are there slabs there or should I travel south? Perplex and suffering from cabin fever.

Amarillo is right in the middle of some of the best fishing in the world,

500 miles in any direction. smile

Back in the day , Lake Meridith put out tons of crappie ( and walleye),
but I understand it is a mudhole now.

Sorry about your luck, I left the Panhandle in '82.

I fished Meredith and Ute when I was a kid. Caught lots of crappie, sand bass, and walleye. Like Mo said, Meredith is real low although the level came up a lot last year from where it was. Too bad crappie don't live in wheat, corn, or cotton fields, otherwise you would be set.

Alan Henry down south of Post TX probably your best bet.Water temp is still a bit cold for a big slab fest yet but that lake is close to full and the crappie should start to move up shallow soon if they have not already started in that direction. They have a fishing dock to use but that is about the only bank fishing that can be done. Hope this helps

All Panhandle lakes have quite a bit of water. Meredith has around 60 feet now. Try Green Belt near Clarendon, used to be one heckuva Crappie lake.

Last time I fished Wolf Creek Park (between Perryton & Canadian north of Hwy 83?), I caught all sorts of smaller crappie. It was later in the year, though. Lake Marvin just outside of Canadian supposedly has crappie in it. So does Lake Makenzie. Those are my ideas.
