Boathouse Crappie

Boathouse Crappie - 02/18/16 12:48 PM

I added some fresh cut, big cedar trees under the boathouse late last summer and it looks like they are starting to pay off.

Water was 58-60 degrees in the afternoon. I caught 6 crappie off of the boathouse yesterday afternoon, 12" to 14" size on Texas Toast Slab Bandits. I don't think they are ready to spawn just moving shallow & feeding on shad in preparation.

They were 5' deep in 6' of water. Males were not black yet and females were fat & healthy but not bulging with eggs.

So don't think it's too early to fish shallow.
