Creeking for Crappie

Never done this but have a place in mind to try. Would it be as simple as a short rod pitching a jig on a slip bobber? There will be plenty of walking involved so I want to go light, so I thought I would ask the experts on tatics etc. Thanks for your help.

I'm no expert, but jigging slow on the bottom has been working for me. I've been fishing painfully slow. If the water is around 4 feet, I would not use a bobber. It just depends on how spooky the fish are.

I take a short rod and a long rod...and use the long rod 99% of the time, with no bobber...jig only and small jigs at that...1/64 or 1/32, personally, I use the
thermocline Lil Fry for 95% of my fishing...and really seem to have good luck with the monkey milk, natural shad, or black emerald shiner in the creeks. spool heavy line, use small baits and long rods...bring along a wagon to haul your catch back...or a 5 gallon bucket. Dont forget to take a stringer along to keep the fish alive. Good luck and good fishng...

Thanks for the advice. My cousin's fiancee and I are going to give it a try. I was thinking shooting with a short rod but taking a long 16 footer would be good as well to jig brush here and there. Hopefully we will catch a mess!

Good luck to you...I use a 9 or 10 foot when I'm creeking...they will get most situations covered and not be too long to handle in the trees/brush or when horsing fish out of tree tops...on the short rod issue, I use a 5 foot rod and a fixed cork about a foot up the line...it works for areas the 10 footer won't reach...Don't know wherre you are located, but if you are down Hillsboro way, give me a call and I will show you the ropes and maybe some good fishing areas as well.

Don't forget a small backpack will carry everything you need for an enjoyable trip...headlight, pliers,snacks, water, basic fishing gear, extra reel, repellent, stringer, snake charmer, etc. Later
