Portable Fish Finder - 02/03/16 09:29 PM

Just wondering if anyone has one of these or have tried one of these portable fish finders that you can toss from the bank or even use in a 2man boat or kayak. Wanting to know your thoughts and feedback...

I have seen several on the water reviews on the Deeper and it seems to be a very good product. If I had the extra money laying around I would definitely have one. The Ibobber is pretty similar but cheaper and not as good of quality as the Deeper.

I bought a Hawkeye portable runs four aaa batteries has a 30 foot cord for the transducer I've only used it on docks, has a strap to put around your neck and just drop the transducer in the water has a float to keep it up and a adapter to mount to a broom handle. it reads depth and marks fish but only uses symbols for bottom structure, with handle attached you can look under docks. its helped me with suspended fish and seem to work, I want to try it out this spring when Im fishing out of my water wagon, runs around $100

I have been considering buying a Deeper for this year. Everything I've seen on it seems to be positive. I think it would be real handy during bank fishing trips to the creek. My only concern is how fast the update back and forth between your phone is. I like to fish catfish after a good rain when the water is flowing well I just wonder if it would have time to scan/update if the water is moving it down stream a little fast.

Welcome to the forum!!!!

I guess my only concern would be, if you're fishing the creeks, how good the reception would be with your cell phone. I know there are some locations that I fish that has no reception at all.

Some use Bluetooth to connect to your phone and some connect via a wireless connection. In general the wireless connection gives your greater distance.

2cents I use a regular fish finder with a smaller lawnmower type battery for my kayak. I figured if I could do that why not just take it with me as a portable. So, a milk crate with the battery inside and the fish finder mounted to it and then just put the transducer in the water and Waa Laaa, portable fish finder. Redneck as can be, but works great.

I love my deeper. Got it for Christmas and it works great. Waiting on spring and the fish to push shallow.

Only downside is battery life on my phone, app uses lots of power. Also you will lose Bluetooth on windy days.

Flukemaster has a great video on youtube about it.

Photo is a local pond in Plano. See a nice bass on the back side of the hump
