Brush pile anchoring

Have a new motorguide trolling motor with nmea to lowrance graph. When marking brush piles from the graph and then asking the trolling motor to take me to the bp will the trolling motor try to position me where the graph was at the time I hit the marker? I have a 24 ft boat so trolling motor and graph are probably close to 20 ft apart. It's another 4 ft from graph to transducer. Plan on experimenting with bouys to get a better idea but thought I would run it by the bp experts before hand.

Use the waypoint to get you to the area, then look on your front graph till your on it, then set TM to stay there. With the wind coming from different directions and your GPS being not located next to your TM that the best way to lock in above a BP, or idle past it, throw out your bouy marker just past it (upwind) when you locate it on your side or down imaging.

If your transducer is on the back of the boat and you mark a point your trolling motor will be 20+ feet away from that point. I ended up buying a lowrance graph and put it on the bow near the trolling motor where I can mark a way point with the trolling motor transducer. I have a hummingbird graph for my main finder but wish I had gone Lowrance all the way around.

The Motorguide Xi5 trolling motor is an incredible tool. It has helped me and my fishing buddy catch many limits of crappie.

I have the Xi5 and a Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 3 on the console. When I mark a brush pile and tell the XI5 to go to it it puts me right on top of it and I have verified with my Elite 7 on the bow thats connected to the XI5 I love the technology and it holds me on the pile in the wind that I tested on Hubbard on New Years eve when it gusted up to 20 mph held me there no problems.

That is awesome. Can't wait to get mine out on the lake.

My MG Xi5 is net worked through Lowrance HDS units. I think when the Lowrance HDS unit is used to tell the Xi5 go to a waypoint, the Xi5 uses the GPS coordinates it receives from the Lowrance unit and positions the trolling motor head over that point upon arrival. Make sure the Lowrance auto pilot setting is for the trolling motor to go into anchor mode on arrival at the waypoint.

I also find once the trolling motor stabilizes over the waypoint and the boat is pointing into the wind, I can use the jog feature on the remote control to move the boat so as to fish a brushpile from the side or back of the boat.
