Trigger spin / Underspin reels

Trigger spin / Underspin reels - 12/29/15 08:51 PM

Hi,

Looking for a reliable spin cast reel with a trigger for a crappie rod. Not interested in a spinning reel as I will be using the rod to hike through brush and my experience has shown brush likes to snag on open faced reels and line, plus small diameter rod guides.

Read a few reviews on zebco 11 and the zebco 33 micro with differing opinions between great to not what they used to be to reel failed on trying to land moby dick.

The mini zebco reels interest me because I am looking to go after crappie, no need to cast a country mile, small size to fit into backpack, and reduced distance between rod and trigger. Reason for minimal distance between rod and trigger/reel is due to smaller diameter for the first guide. The rod is a fly/spin setup with the action more geared toward fly fishing.

Any other recommendations for a quality trigger spin reel in the ultralight 4 lbs line class?

Thanks.

I use and have used every one there is the diawa is the best. They still need to create one that last for yrs .I love the simplicity and matched with no memory braid it works great.Nothing about the egg beater empress me at all.The small bait casters also work well also .I learned to reel with my left hand so mine are left handed this keeps the handles out of the way when stripping line.Ok I'm through ha Darrell

I own micro Pflueger and Shakespeare underspins which I use on flyrods, I get by with the Shakespeare's but the Pflueger is far better, the 4+1 ball bearings makes it the smoothest spincast I've ever fished....

Thanks fellas for the direction. Will check out the Diawas and pleugers. Too bad they do not make solid trigger spins. Wish they made ones to last years.

My reels has lasted for years, I've had one Shakespeare reel for 5 years... Keep them clean, oiled and dry, they can last if you take care of them.... The thing about these reels are they lack power and a fast gear ratio, but hey it's crappie gear... The day I can't turn a crappie with my fly rod and underspin is the day i quit fishing...
