Awesome Crappie Bite on the Guadalupe River!

Myself,Fred "Rionator" Mike"USMC-GY,and Matt "South Texas Duck Hunter" fished the Guadalupe River and the bite was ON FIRE! We boated over 100 keeper Crappie with only two throw backs. Just about all the fish were in the 13 to 14 inch range with a couple going a little over 15 inches. All fish were healthy,fat,and full of fight. We fished several locations and found good populations of hungry fish at all locations. We had non stop action through out the day. We fished from 7am till 3pm. Jig em Jigs(green/purple),Crappie Magnets(Chartreuse/red)and Crappie Sliders(silver)were the baits of choice. Fish were found in 7 to 12 feet of water at all locations. Fish were by brush piles and over hanging tree limbs. Most of the fish were released but we also kept a few for the frying pan. Some great Crappie action on the Guadalupe River. It just don't get any better.

Thanks Guys for the replies. The Crappie bite on the Guadalupe River has been good all year. The floods have kind of set us back but the river bite is really picking back up. Fish are very active. "SheCrappieKilla": Finding good numbers in shallow water 7 to 10 feet deep and yes we are finding em in creeks/canales right at the mouths of em coming into the main river. As for the Rios all of the past flooding has really messed up the Rio bite. I have caught some nice ones on the Guadalupe but it was far from what I have been doing over past years. Caught most of my Rios on creeks this year. With the latest cold fronts that have blown in along with the super cold front coming in on Saturday the Rios will be in hiding until next spring. "Spiderman": I usually target the Bluegill (Sunfish) and post a lot of reports in the Bluegill Section. I do catch a lot of Crappie especially now until spawn!

Are there any good maps of the river?

Ya'll keep this up I might move ta Minnesota...

Wow that is fun! Way to go guys.

Early morning prefrontal slabs off the Guadalupe! Caught 45+ in about 2 hours
kept a few for a dinner. Using soft plastics. 12 - 20' of water.
Also got into a school of ditch lizards 2-3 lb range that were chasing a ball of shad.

Yeaaa buddy!!!!! Fish fry koming soon!!!!!

Thanks guys for the replies! The bite has been AWESOME these past few weeks. Since we did not get a ton of rain down here this go around this upcoming week is looking pretty good. Matt: Glad to see the bite is still going strong. Nice haul!

This upcoming week for sure. Water a little cloudy after the rains we had. Give it a couple of days and fishing will be fine.

Jeff,Steve,and I boated over 100 yesterday! Far east side. Fish were in 14 to 18 feet of water by stick ups. Fished from sun-up till a little after 2pm. Did not see one boat!

I saw Steve at Acadamey and he filled me in! Yes Sir Curtis not to many people fish that neck of the woods. The more you fish there the better you will get on finding them. Hopefully I will make it out there soon. The best is just around the corner!

Side Note: Upper river above Canyon Lake is picking up. Friends of mine did very good yesterday.

Were your buddies in a Tracker. If so me and a friend of mine were tied to a stick up just down from them. We also did very good.

You guys are killing me. We were killing the crappie and white bass in the Yegua this time last year. This year the lake is still over 5 feet high and most of our normal access points are still closed due to the flooding in May. Maybe in another couple weeks it will fishable again. Access points are still limited though.

Where did you launch?

Thanks Jammie and Gary F. for the replies. Jammie: We dodge a bullet this last RAIN event. Upper hill country and the Dallas Ft.Worth area got a ton of rain. Winter Crappie bite should be awesome providing no more flooding! Gary F.: We launched under the I-35 bridge.

Launching a boat under the 35 bridge doable by one person, water appears to slightly swift and I am concerned.

I have seen plenty of people by themselves launching at that ramp. The current is pretty swift and can even be a little tricky with two people. Judging by the number of single boaters launching there you should not have any problems as long as you are careful!



Side Note: You can also launch at Schumann's Beach! It cost $5.00 and there is not much current there. It is located on the lower end of the lake.
