Fresh batch of Condos ready to go overboard

Fresh batch of Condos ready to go overboard - 07/11/15 07:19 PM

Just finishing up a round of fresh condos.
This is a simple but effective design I use, but with a slight twist. I converted a slightly larger bucket into a concrete "form" that I can use over and over. I hate wasting 5gal buckets, and I like the slightly wider base these have. The pipe has a nail driven thru the bottom to help strengthen the concrete and keep them in place. I just use some pieces of duck tape, which can be reused several times, to hold the bucket together while the form sets. One screw at the top and another halfway down holds the pipe in place till it sets, then I remove and reuse them. Takes 2/3 of a bag of sackcrete, so I get 4 out of every 3 bags. I usually add halves of nursery pots to the top of every other pipe for more shade also. I just do one every 24hrs for a week or two, then make a covert trip to drop em.
Got about a dozen ready to roll! wink

Nice looking design Eric. Saves a lot of $4.00 buckets also. thumb

Sorry Vern, but this batch is earmarked for another lake. Sure might bring a few to Palestine next batch though. These work great to sweeten up scattered timber spots. wink

Good idea!

Do those work well even in deeper spots, or are they more for shallower holes?

I just made some with the "porcupine balls" that I got from cabelas a while back. I made them 10 feet wide and ten feet tall. with a concrete weight on the center leg.

Those look really good and easy to put out. I just put some out last week and thought a time or two that I was going to the bottom of the lake with them. Hope you don't mind if I copy your design.

Is that irrigation pipe for sprinkler systems?

Those look good!! I have a bag of sacrete on all mine. Need to try your way. Made some like that from an old spool of gas line and some more from the well liner at our house when they pulled the old line out.

I think it's conduit for fiber optic cable. It's a very thick walled poly pipe. Similar in size to 40sch 1 1/4 PVC.
Came from a cleanup crew picking up scraps. Got an entire truck bed full twice, which I think was about 250 pieces. All 4-7' long. wink
